Our class believes deeply in prayer and frequently do a laying on of hands and prayer for our members who have serious health problems. Our members range from 35 to 70 years old and all take a very active approach to outreach supporting F.I.S.H., Meals on Wheels, Happy Feet, The Crisis Center, Dress a Live Doll and the Methodist Children’s Home. We have a yearly Christmas party at one of the members homes and get together at least two more times during the year. If Living and Giving sounds like a class you would like to visit we would love to see you this Sunday. |

Genesis The Genesis Sunday school class at FUMC Plainview has approximately 55 members ranging in age from 40 to 55. We are a diverse group in many ways. Diverse in Family structure, some have kids as young a one year old and some have kids that are grown and out of the nest. Professionally diverse; we have many professions represented, 20 members are involved in education, 9 in agriculture, 4 from banking, 2 accountants, 2 insurance agents, 2 construction and 13 other professions. Diverse in our style of worship, about half the class attends the contemporary early worship service and about half attend the late worship service that is more traditional. Diverse in leadership, our teacher is Dr. Charles Starnes, a retired submarine commander and economics professor at Diverse lessons, currently we are using the book Doing Business by the Good Book by David L. Steward. In the past we used the book Being Methodist in the Bible Belt by F. Belton Joyner, and The 40 days of Purpose by Rick Warren. And the Faith Connection Adult Bible study Guide is always resource for the class. Diverse activity, we like to get together outside of church too! Every spring we have a shrimp boil party that always provides great entertainment and memories. Every Christmas we load up our families in the church bus and go around town singing Christmas Carols to some of the elderly members of the church, followed up with dinner at a local restaurant. In 2008 we took the church bus and about 20 family members to The only thing missing from the Genesis class is you! |

Koinonia Koinonia Class is a committed group of both singles and couples with a wide range of ages, ethnic backgrounds, and vocations, who enjoy coming together to study God’s Word, grow our faith, share Christ through outreach, and fellowship with one another. We are located on the second floor in Room 205. Wanda Carter is our teacher and Curtis Bailey is the assistant. Currently, Wanda is teaching the book of Revelation. Other studies of various topics have included Experiencing God by Henry Blackerby, Adult Bible Lessons by Cokesbury, The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, and The Case for Faith by Lee Strobel. Koinonia, which is the Greek word for fellowship, faithfully supports FUMC ministries as well as community projects including Faith in Sharing House and Dress a Live Doll. For over seven years, Koinonia has sponsored a child at the New Life Children’s Home in Guatemala. This year, we also helped sponsor a layperson to evangelize in Brazil through his Paint Talk ministry. Through the years, many of our class members have answered the call to teach other Sunday School classes within the church. Several of our members have served in the military; at present, we have one who is serving in Iraq, one whose brother is serving in Afghanistan, and another whose son is in the Coast Guard. We embrace the power of prayer, and we maintain an ongoing prayer list. We are open to anyone who wants to attend, and we would love to have you visit our class! |
Morning Light |
The members of our class take turns teaching the lesson each Sunday. Most of the men teach at some time during the year and occasionally one of the women does likewise. The couple responsible for the lesson brings a light breakfast, which no one wants to give up for sure!!!!!!!!!! We enjoy breaking bread together and visiting before the lesson. This has been a tradition for MANY years for this class. We use the Bristol Bible Curriculum Bible Study for our weekly lessons. These lessons are easier for us to follow when we are having several couples out or away from town, then they can easily pick up and review or at least know what will be happening on the next Sunday when they return. Occasionally we watch a film series that correlates with our lessons or the season of the year.
We have enjoyable get togethers during the holidays. We have a progressive supper during the Christmas season and have a sunrise breakfast and lesson at the Wilder's house on Easter. We do try to get together during the summer and fall season. We have enjoyed going to Palo Duro and Lubbock for a special supper and program from year to year.
We help serve the Wednesday night meals during the school year and try to support the youth programs, lunches, cookouts, etc.
Morning Light Class is made mostly of middle-aged couples (50-65). We have a total of 28 enrolled members. Several of our members are business owners or employees in the community and involved in many community activities in various ways. Some of the men are: farmers, local business men, financial advisors, members of the Chamber of Commerce or related boards of service.
A lot of the members are grandparents, which results in a varied Sunday to Sunday attendance due to visits or travel. Many of the women and a few of the men are teachers for the public or private school systems of Plainview.
We are faithful donors for the Dress-A-Live programas well as the FISH or Faith and Sharing programs. We are more inclined to work with local needs as they arise within the community.
