Jerry L. Moore serves as Senior Pastor appointed to serve the mission in and around First United Methodist Church of Plainview, Texas.He moved his focus in ministry, November 1, 2007 to the South Plains.The Church is currently engaging 589 of the Professing members while nurturing 142 people who are considering making First UMC their home for ongoing faith and service.
Pastor Jerry was licensed as a local pastor in 1984; ordained Deacon in 1992 and Elder in 1994.He is a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky with a M.Div. and a graduate of West Texas State University at Canyon (West Texas A&M) with a B.A. in psychology.In 2001 he was awarded an Advanced Certification in Formative Spirituality from the Epiphany Academy in Pittsburgh PA. under the direction of Dr. Adrian van Kaam and Dr. Susan Muto.Jerry continues to work in the area of Human Formation and Christian Formation with Dr. Vincent Bilotta of Providence, Rhode Island. From 1984-1989 he served the congregation and community of Groom, Texas.While in Groom, he was honored with the “People helping People Award” from the Alpha Mu Xi.From 1989-1992 Jerry moved his wife and three daughters to Kentucky to work on His Master’s Degree.From 1992-2007 Jerry served the faith communities and mission in Miami, Gruver, Littlefield and Dalhart, Texas.Beginning November 1, 2007 Jerry has been serving as senior pastor of First UMC in Plainview, Texas. As a writer Jerry was invited to write offerings for Disciplines 2008 published by The UpperRoom.He offers ongoing formation through his column MOORE OBSERVATIONS.Jerry is currently working on a book that invites awareness of obstacles to hospitality. Pastor Jerry was the first Chair of the Order of Elder appointed to sit on the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Northwest Texas Annual Conference.During that time he created and led groups of probationers and local pastors in ongoing formation.These groups gathered in Direction in Common for Day at The Well that included a Spiritual Reading Program he created for pastors in the Northwest Texas Conference.Jerry has also served on the Conference Nominations Committee as well as the District Committee on Ministry. Jerry continues to offer ongoing formation for pastors from many different faith traditions as well as lay members who seek ongoing formation for themselves, their families and their covenant groups. Pastor Jerry’s wife, Tisha has retired from a career in which she served in the business administration of clinics and hospitals as well as medical record technology.She was assistant supervisor of medical records at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington while Jerry attended seminary.In returning to Texas, Tisha was instrumental in setting up multiple rural health clinics in the Panhandle of Texas during her career.Jerry and Tisha are parents to three adult daughters.Tomara married Scott Reeves and they live with their two sons (and baby on the way) in Hammond Louisiana.Jessica married Zach Varner and they take advantage of all their opportunities in Austin, Texas.Sarah is single and enjoying life in Houston, Texas.
